TONY AWARD 2018 Nominees Announced

Congratulations to the 2018 Tony Award Nominees.

The awards will be presented live on CBS on Sunday, June 10, hosted by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban. Both are very
popular singers, but they also both have serious Broadway ties. Ms. Bareilles wrote the Tony-nominated music and lyrics for Waitress, and for a time even took over the lead role. She also contributed a song to one of this year's nominated musicals, the wildly delightful SpongeBob SquarePants Mr. Groban made his Broadway debut last year as Pierre in Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812, for which he deservedly was nominated for a Tony.

As has already been announced, theatrical stalwarts Chita Rivera and Andrew Lloyd Webber will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Special awards are going as well to Bruce Springsteen for his  production Springsteen on Broadway, and to John Leguizamo, for his body of work, including this year's Latin History for Morons.

And a titan of New York's Off Off Broadway theater scene, La Mama E.T. C., has been named as the recipient of the 2018 Regional Theater Tony Award. I have happily attended many thrilling performances there, and I was pleased to be able to cast my vote in this category as a proud member of the American Theatre Critics Association.

Here are the nominees for the 2018 Tony Awards.

Those marked in RED also received Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk nominations.

Do note that the highly touted musical The Band's Visit, a very strong contender for Best New Musical award, was not eligible for consideration by the Outer Critics Circle or the Drama Desk this year, having won awards from both organizations for several categories in its Off Broadway incarnation in 2017.
